The short version
Lovers is a place to meet someone special, and that only works if you can trust us with what you share. So here is our promise in plain words.
We use your information to run your account, show you people you might like, and keep our community safe. We never sell your data, we don’t show ads, and we don’t share your data for advertising.
Your exact location is never stored. Your messages are seen only by you and the person you’re talking to, unless one of you reports the conversation. You can download your data or delete your account at any time in Settings.
Who we are
Lovers (“we”, “us”) is responsible for your personal data. [Company legal name, registered address and company number.]
You can reach us at any time at support@getlovers.app. [Data Protection Officer contact, and EU / UK representative, if required.]
What you give us
Your account: your email address and a password. The password is stored only as a secure hash by our authentication provider, and nobody at Lovers can read it. We send a one-time code to your email to confirm it and when you reset your password.
If you sign in with Apple or Google: we receive your email address (with Apple, you can choose to share a private relay address instead) and, if you allow it, your name, so we can create your account and sign you in. We never receive your Apple or Google password, and we get no access to anything else in your Apple or Google account.
Your date of birth: we use it to check that you are 18 or over and to show your age. It is stored separately from your profile, and other members only ever see your age, never the date itself.
Your profile: name, username, gender, the kind of relationship you are looking for, bio, job, height, interests, music taste and photos. You choose what to fill in, and you can change it at any time.
Who you are interested in: this can reveal your sexual orientation, so we only use it with your explicit consent, which you give during sign-up, and only for matching. It is never shown on your profile. Because matching works both ways, someone who sees you in Discover can reasonably assume you are open to meeting people like them.
Your gender, and anything you write about yourself, can also reveal sensitive things about you. That is shown on your profile because you chose to share it.
Your approximate location, if you allow it: when you set up your profile, the app asks for your position and our server rounds it to about 1 km before it is saved. Your exact position is never stored and never shown. It can be updated at most once every 15 minutes, which protects you against people trying to pinpoint you.
What you do in Lovers: likes, passes, matches, unmatches, blocks and reports, and the messages, photos, voice messages, videos and documents you send in chats.
Appeals and support: what you write to us when you appeal a decision or contact support.
Your choices: your settings (for example distance, age range, notifications, Private Mode, Show My Age, Show My Distance, Read Receipts) and records of which version of our documents you accepted and when, including your Age Declaration and, when you buy a plan, the Refund Policy and your request for the plan to start immediately (which ends the 14-day right of withdrawal).
Giveaways and contests: if you enter, we use your account and your entry (for a contest, for example the link to your video and your social media username) to run the giveaway. If you win, we also ask for what is needed to deliver the prize and meet legal duties, such as your full name, address, proof of age and identity, and tax details. We publish a winner’s first name, city or username only if that giveaway’s rules say so and the law allows it.
What we collect automatically
Push notifications: if you allow them, a notification token for your device and its platform (iOS or Android).
Error reports: when the app crashes or something fails unexpectedly, it sends us technical details (the error message, where in the app it happened, your device platform and app version) linked to your account. Error reports are designed not to include your messages or other content you shared.
Usage counters: we count actions such as likes, passes, messages, reports and data downloads to apply daily plan limits and to stop spam and abuse (rate limiting).
Discovery history: which profiles were shown to you, so we don’t keep showing you the same people.
Reply rate: from the timing of messages in your conversations over the last 90 days, our server calculates how often you reply within 18 hours. It is shown to your matches in chat (for example “Replies within 18h 92% of the time”). Separately, if a message has been waiting about 12 hours for your reply, we may send you a gentle reminder.
Photos are resized and re-encoded on your device before upload, which removes hidden metadata such as the GPS position a photo was taken at. Videos, voice messages and documents are uploaded as they are.
On your phone, the app keeps your sign-in session encrypted, with the key in the device’s secure keychain or keystore, and remembers small things such as which new matches you have already seen. In the web version, the session is kept in your browser’s storage.
We do not collect your phone contacts, your precise location, advertising identifiers, or your payment card details, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
Payments
Payment details never pass through Lovers. On iPhone and iPad you pay Apple through the App Store; on Android you pay Google through Google Play; on the web you pay on Stripe’s secure checkout page.
Apple, Google and Stripe process your payment under their own privacy policies. RevenueCat helps us confirm App Store and Google Play purchases: it receives your Lovers account ID and the purchase information from the store.
For web payments we give Stripe your email address and your Lovers account ID so the payment can be linked to your account, and Stripe sends us back confirmation of the payment.
What we keep: your plan, where you bought it, its status (for example active, cancelled or refunded), its renewal or end date and the store’s reference for it. We use this to switch your plan on and off, to make sure you only ever have one plan at a time, and, on the web, to cancel and refund an accidental duplicate subscription automatically.
Why we use your data, and our legal basis
To provide Lovers to you: your account, profile, matching, chat, plans and support. This is necessary to perform our agreement with you (the Terms of Service).
With your consent: using who you are interested in for matching, your approximate location for distance-based discovery, and push notifications. You can withdraw consent at any time (see Your rights). Withdrawing does not affect what we did before.
For safety and to protect our service, based on our legitimate interest in keeping members safe: preventing fraud, spam and abuse, rate limiting, reviewing reports, enforcing our Terms, keeping a fingerprint of banned email addresses, and fixing errors.
To comply with the law: for example keeping records required by tax or consumer law, and answering valid requests from authorities.
We do not sell your personal data, do not “share” it for cross-context behavioural advertising, and do not show ads. We do not use your data to make decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you purely by automated means: moderation decisions are always made by people.
Who can see what
Other members can see your name, username, age (unless you turn off Show My Age), gender, relationship type, bio, photos, job, height, interests and music. They can see a rounded distance to you only if you keep Show My Distance on.
Your matches also see your reply rate. If you are on Premium, others see your Premium badge.
If you like someone whose plan includes “See who liked you”, they can see that you liked them. If you both have Read Receipts on, you can see when your messages have been read.
Private Mode shows your profile in Discover only to people you have already liked. Pausing your account hides you from Discover entirely. People you block, and people who block you, can no longer see or contact each other.
Your messages and chat files are visible only to you and the person you are talking to. Chat files are stored privately and opened only through short-lived links.
Profile photos are stored so they can be shown to other members: anyone who has the exact link to one of your profile photos can open it. Please only upload photos you are comfortable sharing.
Safety and moderation
When you report someone from a chat, our server saves a copy of the most recent messages in that conversation (up to 200) together with your report, so our team can review what happened. While the report is open, the photos and files in that conversation cannot be deleted.
Reports are reviewed by trained members of our team using a private moderation tool that only accounts we have approved can open. They can see the report, that copy of the conversation and its files, and the profile and photos of the people involved. Every time a team member opens someone’s details or the conversation copy, it is logged.
The person you report is never told who reported them.
Service providers
We use a small number of trusted providers who process data for us under contract and only on our instructions:
Supabase: database, authentication, file storage and server functions, where your account and profile data is hosted [hosting region: confirm, e.g. EU].
Expo, Apple (Apple Push Notification service) and Google (Firebase Cloud Messaging): delivering push notifications. Notifications never contain names or message text, only short messages such as “You have a new message”.
Apple (Sign in with Apple) and Google (Sign in with Google): signing you in, if you choose to use them.
Apple (App Store), Google (Google Play), Stripe and RevenueCat: payments and subscriptions, as described above.
[Email delivery provider, if one is configured for sign-up and password codes.]
Some of these providers may process data outside your country, including in the United States. Where that happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses or an adequacy decision. [Confirm with each provider.]
How long we keep your data
Your account and profile: for as long as you have your account.
When you delete your account, it is hidden from everyone straight away and your devices stop receiving notifications. You can restore it by signing in within 40 days. After that, your account is erased permanently: your profile, photos, settings, likes, passes, matches, your conversations (for both people in them), the files you sent, and your consent records.
Discovery history: 30 days. Passes: 1 year (someone you passed on can appear again after 30 days). Reply reminder records: 30 days. Rate-limit counters: 2 days. Error reports: 30 days.
Notification tokens: removed when you sign out or delete your account, and otherwise after 270 days without use.
Reports: kept for member safety even after an account is deleted, but without the reporter’s or the reported person’s identity attached. The copy of a reported conversation is deleted 90 days after the report is dismissed, or 2 years after action was taken.
Moderation decisions and appeals: kept for [define period] to handle appeals, repeat violations and legal requests, unlinked from the account when it is deleted. Records of which team member viewed what: 2 years.
Banned accounts: we keep a one-way fingerprint (hash) of the email address, so it cannot be used to sign up again, even after the account is deleted.
Payment records: our references to payment events are kept, unlinked from your account once it is deleted, so that the same payment is never applied twice. Apple, Google and Stripe keep their own payment records as required by tax and financial law.
Backups: deleted data can remain in backups until they are overwritten, within [backup retention period].
Giveaway records: entries are deleted 12 months after the giveaway ends. Winners’ details are kept for as long as prize and tax laws require.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example the EU/EEA, UK, Switzerland, Brazil, California and other US states, Canada, Australia, Japan, South Korea or India), you may have the right to access your data, correct it, get a copy, delete it, restrict or object to its use, and withdraw your consent.
Download My Data (Settings) gives you a copy of your account and profile, date of birth, settings, consents, photos, likes, passes, matches, the messages you sent, blocks, reports you made, moderation decisions, appeals, notification devices and subscriptions. You can do this up to 10 times a day.
Delete Account (Settings) deletes your account (restorable for 40 days, then permanent). You can edit your profile and settings at any time.
To withdraw consent: turn off location or notifications for Lovers in your phone’s settings or in Settings in the app. To withdraw your consent to using who you are interested in, write to us; please note that without it Discover cannot work for you: we cannot show you anyone, or show you to anyone.
For anything else, email support@getlovers.app. We may need to confirm it is really you. We answer within the time your law requires (usually within one month). You also have the right to complain to your data protection authority.
Adults only
Lovers is only for adults aged 18 or over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone younger, and we remove accounts we believe belong to a minor. If you think someone under 18 is using Lovers, please report them in the app or write to us.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit. On our servers, strict per-user access rules mean you can only reach your own data and what others have chosen to show. Our team’s moderation access is limited to accounts we have approved, and every access is logged.
No system is perfectly secure. Please use a strong password that you don’t use anywhere else, and tell us at once if you suspect a problem with your account.
Changes to this policy
Last updated 11 October 2026 (version 2026-10-11). If we make important changes, we will let you know before they apply, in the app or by email.
